🗺️ The best points deals in October

Story time:

Allie, always on the lookout for travel deals, sat down one evening to review her credit card points. She was eager to book a trip to Europe but still a bit short on miles. That’s when Allie saw it—a 30% transfer bonus on her Chase Ultimate Rewards points to British Airways. With a quick transfer of 10,000 points from her Chase account to her British Airways account, she suddenly had 13,000 Avios. That bonus was the push she needed to book the flight she’d been dreaming of- and could now even afford business class! Grinning, Allie knew that exploring what the world has to offer was just a bit closer now.

Isn’t that a lovely story on how transfer bonus’ work? I wrote it just for you in hopes to illustrate the value of transfers bonus’ that are always coming and going in the world of points + miles. These transfer bonus’ become extra exciting when booking multiple tickets in a reservation because the savings becomes more and more!

Pro tip→ Before transferring points for any flight, do a quick Google search to see what transfer bonus’ are floating around out there. Oftentimes, it will be listed in your bank travel portal under “Redeem points.”

Here’s a list I compiled of all the pretty, pretty transfer bonus’ going on this month, in case you too were on the lookout for a travel deal.

The best thing about Southwest 🥰

It’s why Southwest feels like a best friendalways understanding and forgiving, even if you’ve changed your mind.

  • It’s common knowledge that if you book a flight with Southwest Airlines and the price drops after you've made the reservation, you can get the difference back in points or travel credit, depending on how you originally booked. But do you actually take advantage of it?

I have a flight to Texas next month and I was doing my due diligence to see if the price decreased, and lookie lookie 👀

I want you to know exactly what I did to save 4k points in under 5 minutes→

  1. I logged into my Southwest app: Selected the flight I wanted to check and clicked “Change.”

  1. I checked for price drops: I scanned the flight options and looked to see what changes were made in pricing. You’ll know this because there will either be a plus or minus sign in front of it. Imagine the joy at seeing that the price had gone down!

  1. Selected the flight and hit confirm: From here I simply clicked the flight I wanted, confirmed it and the difference was automatically refunded. If you booked with points, the difference will credit back to your Rapid Rewards account. If you booked with cash, the difference will be refunded as a travel credit.

Southwest doesn't charge change fees, so this is a great way to save points or money when fares drop! Don’t let free money (or points) go to waste. It’s wise to check in on an existing reservations to make a such an easy change.

Have you taken advantage of the "no charge" change/cancellation policy with Southwest?
