✈︎ First Class Travel Tip: Surviving a Long Haul Flight (With kids!)
Yesterday, we landed in Uruguay—at least, I think we did. After two flights, countless time zones, and a 13 hour long haul, my body has lost all sense of place and time. But as I step into our newest home, exhaustion gives way to relief. We made it. Long-haul travel is never easy, but over the years, we’ve fine-tuned our strategy to make these marathon journeys more manageable- especially with kids.
Here are the five things that helped us survive this one→
1. Always Have Lounge Access: One of the best ways to survive a long travel day is by having a quiet, comfortable space to recharge between flights. Thanks to our Capital One Venture X card, we have access to lounges all over the world. Free food (!!), showers, and a calm space to stretch out made the layovers infinitely more bearable. If you travel often or you travel with kids, this perk alone makes the card worth it.
2. Choose Your Seat Wisely: This is the most stressful part for me by far when traveling with kids. Usually, I re-evaluate my selection several times as the flight gets closer. This flight was tricky for me, because of the 2-4-2 configuration rather than 3-5-3. If you’re traveling with family, look for seating arrangements that allow you to stay together but still maximize space.

We scored BIG TIME!
How it played out→ I jumped into the row behind our assigned seats when the plane door closed and no one else was boarding to snag a second ENTIRE row! Results? Both kids able to lay down along the a row and it was pure heaven. It also left Geo and I to have turns in either row, leaving each of us with multiple seats to spread out 🙌.
3. Pack the Right Travel Essentials: Geo is currently working on the video to showcase all the gear we used to help us survive 13 hours in the air. In the end it came down to two items that really made a difference- Thing One and Thing Two.
4. Hydration & Movement Matter: Flights dehydrate you fast, combined with sitting for hours can really make you feel crummy. We always pack an empty water bottle for each of us to refill after security and Geo swears by compression socks whenever he flies. Here is the pair we like- Link 🧦.
5. Have a Sleep Strategy: Adjusting to a new time zone starts on the plane. Our flight didn’t take off until midnight. So, we had a late dinner in the lounge and that way our kids were ready for “lights out” once we started cruising, rather than keeping them up for dinner service.
Embarking on a long journey- especially with kids- can sound daunting. Using some of the tips shared, you can totally conquer it and arrive at your destination feeling energized and ready for more adventures! Promise!
I hope to see you inside Booked It Lab! We have so much value planned and can’t wait to create community with you!
Cheers,
Allie
