TOP STORY: The Southwest Companion Pass: Your Golden Ticket to Free Flights

Alright, let’s get this out of the way: I’m not exactly a planner. Shocking, I know. But if there’s one thing worth planning for, it’s the holy grail of travel hacks—the elusive Southwest Companion Pass. Trust me, it’s worth its weight in gold.

It’s that magical time of year when you can start plotting to earn a Southwest Companion Pass, and hold onto it for the maximum amount of time. So get onboard, because I’ve got a timeline for you. Follow this, and by early 2025, you and your favorite travel buddy will be flying for free. 🎉

Oh, and because of bank rules, I can’t name the exact credit cards. But let’s just say I’ll be calling them "personal" or "business," and they’re all from the "blue bank" with the airline logo. 😉

Step 1: Today’s the Day (Get Excited!)

Open a personal Southwest credit card. You’ll see there are 3 options. Lucky, lucky, there’s even an elevated offer going on until October 9 (tomorrow!)so go ahead and select that one. It’s like the universe wants you to win.

Step 2: Don’t Go Overboard Just Yet

From now until December 31, start working on that minimum spend of $3,000—but here’s the catch: Don’t spend more than $2,250 on that card before the end of the year. I know, weirdly specific. Returns count toward your spend total, so if you buy something for $500 and then return it, it could still count toward your total. In short, better to be under than over.

Step 3: 30 Days Later, Round 2 Begins

Thirty days (or more) after you opened your personal card, it’s time to open a business Southwest card. There are two options, but I’d say go with the one that has the $99 annual fee. It’s easier on the wallet, and we like easy.

Step 4: Same Spending Game, New Card

Just like with the personal card, spend no more than $2,250 on your business card before the year ends. Same rules apply about returns—don’t let a refund mess up your calculations. Be chill.

Step 5: January 1 - Let’s Finish This!

When the new year hits, you can complete the full $3,000 spend on your personal card. Aim to have it done within the first week of January- and no later than 90 days of opening! You’ll feel accomplished, and you’re almost there!

Step 6: February 1 - Wrapping It Up

Now, it’s time to complete your business card spend. Make sure the $3,000 total is hit by February 7 (or within 90 days of when you opened it)- no later!

Boom! Companion Pass Secured 🎉

Once you’ve hit the minimum spending on both cards, congratulations (both have to be completed in full AFTER 1/1/2025)! You’ve earned the Southwest Companion Pass, which is good for 24 glorious months of flying your buddies for free. Go ahead, pat yourself on the back and start dreaming of all those free flights.

Happy travels!

✈︎ Life Beyond The Grind

We’re monetized, Baby

Did you know that only 10% of all YouTube channels get monetized? I didn’t, until my husband decided to quit his 15 year career and start a YouTube channel.

18 videos and 2 months in, he’s surpassed the required 1K subscribers and 4k hours of views on his videos. In fact, he’s over 2K subs by the time I write this edition 🤯 .

Quick update- we had a YouTube channel that we started a couple of years ago when we lived in a van (thats a story for another day) and it took Geo 1 year to get monetized!

We’re still be posting travel stories there → (Booked it Travel). While that channel will focus on travel stories/destinations, the new channel → (Just Booked It) is where Geo is testing travel gear and making videos about travel trends.

This milestone is obviously a HUGE deal to us as small creators. Within our grand plan, it’s a vital part of our income stream so we are excited to have passed that threshold. We have loads of plans to keep the momentum going across all our platforms and are sincerely grateful you’re here for the ride.

Check out the video that took off with almost 45k views since it was posted!

Our big goal with the newsletter is to hit 10,000 subscribers. Once we do, we are going to give away an epic trip to someone who has never been out of their country.

The newsletter, the videos and being a part of this community is about transforming through travel. You being here means a ton!

🎉 If you are here from YouTube, a special thank you for helping us reach this goal 🎉

Know someone to get us that much closer to reaching out 10k subscriber goal? Send them the link, because sharing is caring → Booked It On Points

✈︎ Travel News

Spirit Airlines is toying with the idea of bankruptcy

Spirit Airlines is in hot water, negotiating with bondholders to about possible bankruptcy after a failed JetBlue merger and mounting debt. With over $3 billion in liabilities and shrinking flight capacity, they’re considering Chapter 11 to keep the planes flying. Engine recalls have further grounded part of the fleet, adding to the chaos. Spirit's challenges highlight the volatility of budget air travel—proving once again that, with some budget airlines, even bankruptcy might come with hidden fees!

Global Entry is now a family affair

Global Entry is now free for children under 18 when a parent or guardian is either enrolled or has a pending application in the program. This update makes it easier and more affordable for families to streamline their international travel experience, as minors no longer need to pay the $100 application fee. It’s a great incentive for families looking to speed through customs together.
